So often I have patients ready and interested to make healthy nutrition choices, but lack the time, resources, or ideas to enact them. Here are some tips:
Protein made in bulk. Often we over eat carbs as they are often fast, easy and/or satisfying. Simply making several chicken breasts, ready to chop up and throw onto a salad, or nibble on when a craving hits, can diminish those carb cravings.
Protein bowls. Once you have protein handy, it can be really easy to throw together a protein bowl. Have a big container of brown rice or quinoa ready, add lentils/beans, fresh veggies, avocado for healthy fats. Make a healthy dressing, like “Goddess Dressing” to throw on top. Spice it up with hot sauce if you want!
Sheet pan meals. Roast a tray of chicken (thighs or breasts are best) with chopped vegetables. Simply toss with olive oil and flavour as desired with your favourite herbs. You can have an Italian, Mexican, Indian, or whatever influence you enjoy!
Hard boiled eggs. Much like having meats ready, eggs can also be a great, quick breakfast or topper to your salad/protein bowl.
Crock pot meals, pre-cut veggies, salad bar at the grocery store. All these make healthy choices easier.
Salad or coleslaw bags. Sometimes when our family gets tired of lettuce, or if we’re in a hurry on sport nights, we have a bag of coleslaw that we top like a salad.
